Wallet security is mostly about routine. Small, repeatable habits can reduce the chance of phishing, account takeover and irreversible mistakes.

1. Write down the recovery phrase offline

Do not keep your seed phrase in screenshots, cloud drives, email drafts or messaging apps. Store it where unauthorized people and online malware cannot reach it.

2. Use a unique password

Do not recycle a password used on exchanges, email or social media. A password manager can help you create and store unique credentials.

3. Turn on strong two-factor authentication

Where supported, use an authenticator app or hardware security key rather than relying only on SMS.

4. Verify the web address every time

Bookmark important services and avoid signing in through links sent in unsolicited messages, ads or search results that imitate a real brand.

5. Read transaction details before signing

Check the destination, asset and amount. For wallet connections, review the permissions being requested instead of approving every prompt automatically.

6. Keep devices updated

Install operating-system and browser updates, remove unused extensions and avoid installing unknown software on a device used for crypto.

7. Separate daily use from long-term storage

A dedicated wallet for larger holdings can reduce the damage if a wallet used for browsing and apps becomes compromised.

8. Test with a small transaction

When using a new address or network, send a small amount first. Confirm that it arrives before moving a larger balance.

9. Verify addresses on the wallet screen

Clipboard malware can replace copied addresses. Compare the beginning and end of the destination and, when possible, verify it on a trusted hardware display.

10. Ignore unsolicited support messages

Scammers often impersonate wallet or exchange support. Legitimate support does not need your seed phrase or private key.

11. Plan for physical risks

Think about theft, fire, water damage and accidental loss. Your recovery plan should survive more than one type of failure.

12. Document a recovery plan

Make sure you understand how to restore the wallet before an emergency happens. A secure backup that nobody can interpret is not useful when recovery is needed.
